1. Before contacting someone
- Read the entire profile or listing and compare rent, deposit, location, amenities and availability for contradictions.
- Understand the exact meaning of any RavDorm badge in the Verification Policy.
- Be cautious of newly created accounts, copied photos, unusually low rent and demands to leave RavDorm immediately.
- Use reverse-image search or maps where useful, but do not treat one online result as conclusive.
2. Protect your account and identity
- Use a unique password and secure the email or Google account connected to RavDorm.
- Never share passwords, one-time codes, recovery links or remote-device access.
- Do not send full Aadhaar, PAN, passport, bank statement or card information through ordinary chat.
- Share only the minimum document information needed and mask unnecessary numbers.
- Report unexpected login, profile or message activity promptly.
3. Visit safely
- Confirm the exact address and the name and role of the person you will meet.
- Prefer daylight, take a trusted person and share your location and expected return time.
- Do not enter a location that differs from the agreed property or feels unsafe.
- Inspect the actual room, doors, locks, water, electricity, fire exits and shared areas.
- Do not hand over original identity documents or allow someone to retain your unlocked device.
4. Verify the property and agreement
Ask the listing party to show suitable identity and evidence that they own or are authorised to manage the property. Check that the person receiving money and signing the document is identified in writing.
- Record rent, deposit, maintenance, utilities, food, lock-in, notice, refund and deduction terms.
- Confirm occupancy, guest, curfew, food, smoking, pet and shared-space rules before signing.
- Read every page and blank field. Keep a signed copy and inventory or move-in-condition record.
- Where appropriate, ask about building use, society consent, fire safety and local registrations.
5. Pay carefully outside RavDorm
- Do not pay merely to unlock an address, hold a viewing or pass a “verification” test.
- Avoid cash and personal-wallet transfers where the recipient cannot be connected to the agreement.
- Use a traceable method, confirm the recipient, state the purpose and obtain a receipt.
- Stop if someone uses threats, extreme urgency, secrecy or a refund promise that is absent from the written terms.
6. Roommate safety
- Meet in a public place first and tell a trusted person where you are going.
- Discuss budget, occupancy authority, deposit responsibility, notice, guests, habits and shared bills.
- Do not rely on lifestyle answers as a background check or guarantee of future conduct.
- Respect a rejected or withdrawn connection. Repeated unwanted contact is prohibited.
- Use a clear written roommate or co-occupancy understanding where appropriate.
7. Common warning signs
- rent far below comparable properties without a credible explanation;
- refusal to allow inspection, video verification or a written agreement;
- requests for gift cards, crypto, OTPs, remote access or payment to an unrelated person;
- inconsistent names, addresses, images or stories;
- pressure to keep the transaction secret or avoid traceable records; and
- threats, sexual comments, discriminatory abuse or attempts to isolate you.
8. Report and preserve evidence
Use RavDorm's Report control or the Grievance and Takedown process. Save the listing URL, account name, messages, dates, receipts and payment reference. Do not edit evidence or retaliate.
For suspected financial cyber-fraud in India, contact the official 1930 helpline or use the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. For immediate physical danger, contact 112 or local police. RavDorm reporting does not replace an official complaint.
